I have a few valued Victorinox knives, but this one is the best pocket knife made.  Slim, practical and sleek looking.

The best.

I have a number of pocket knives, including knives from Spyderco, Boker, Benchmade, and multiple other Victorinox models.  However the knife I carry the most (by far) is the Cadet Alox.  I believe it has the best combination of utility, form factor and appearance for a “gentleman’s knife.”  Thin and small enough to not burden your pocket or bring unwanted attention, but with tools you will actually need and use.  To be clear, the Cadet is not for someone that uses their knife for heavy cutting, but perfect for  light work such as opening a package or bottle or grooming.  The price is totally worth it, highly recommended.

I work in an office and the Cadet is perfect. Most days this is what I carry . It's slim and has great grip. It fits in my pocket well and doesnt get in the way. I like that it doesnt scare people when I do have it out. I use the nail file all the time.  I like this newer version of the file.Best nail file I have ever had The alox scales make it even more slim. Cant go wrong with this SAK

Schickes EDC, gut geeignet fürs Büro und den Business-Alltag. Was mir nicht so gut gefällt: 
Das Cadet gehört zu den Messern der Alox Serie, die KEINE robustere Klinge haben als die normalen Schweizer Taschenmesser von Victorinox. 
Etliche andere Alox (etwa der Pioneer X) haben eine Klinge, die etwas stärker ausgeführt ist und damit langlebiger sein dürfte, was ich bei dieser Serie prima fand. Warum das nicht bei allen Messern der Alox Serie so beibehalten wurde, erschließt sich mir nicht so ganz. Trotzdem ein schönes kleines EDC, evtl ein wenig teuer.

Schön und praktisch

I tended to alternate between a Climber and a Pioneer X before I got this. Though I love my SwissChamp and other more feature packed SAK sometimes less is more and the tools on this are all I really need in a daily carry and as a classical guitarist who obsesses over my nail shape, I find the file and nail cleaner very useful. I thought i’d miss the scissors but I don’t really. The blade does for most things and i’d prefer the smaller profile over a Cadet X though others might long for this. This is smaller and lighter than the other two but still nice and sturdy. It feels like it will last forever like all alox knives.

Perfect Knife to Keep on You.

I have had this knife since 1991. I have carried it in my pocket everyday since and it is the best knife I ever had. This small knife has saved me so many times whether it was the knife or the screwdrivers. The quality speaks for itself. The blades stay sharp and never rust. Fits so perfectly in my pocket that you don't even know it's there. I'm due for a new one as the blades are getting small from sharpening over the years. Bought them for my sons and they love them too. Awesome knife!!

31 years and still the best

Gift from my son about 20 years ago when I lost my Buck knife. Thin profile fits in jeans or suit pants. Friends ask for it if they have to open a letter, package, or beer. Blade has only been sharpened professionally once because it really holds an edge. Almost lost it once. I was in an airport and realized the cadet was in my pocket. Slide down to the edge of the bench, hid it under the fake peat moss on a fake plant. A week later when I got back my Cadet was still there.

Ich kann das Alox Cadet nur empfehlen!
Ich persönlich verwende es als EDC (=every day carry). Das heißt ich trage es seit 2017 täglich in der Hosentasche bei mir und es sind noch keinerlei Beschädigungen oder größere Verschmutzungen dran. 
Es ist leicht und vor allem dünn, weshalb ich das Alox und nicht ein Klassisches Victorinox als EDC gewählt habe.

Perfektes EDC!

Got this to replace my Deluxe Tinker which has been in my work bag for many years. Cadet Alox is a new addition to my EDC arsenal, and fits in my pocket nicely without feeling heavy or bulky in any way. Despite its thin profile, it feels really sturdy for a knife of its size. Only one complaint would be the hole, which the key ring goes through, has a slight “play”, which the shop staff have said is completely normal.

This SAK is fantastic! 
It is slim and complete!  Ideal to carry in dress pants or suits.  Of course I miss the scale tools but it is a good price to pay for such a slim knife!

Ich möchte das Messer nicht mehr missen und habe es täglich dabei. Egal ob in der Jeans am Wochenende oder zum Sakko im Büro, die zeitlosen Alox Schalen machen immer eine gute Figur.

Das Immer Dabei Messer

Superbe finition et un couteau tres solide. Assez démuni, il sera suffisant pour 90% des tâches en ville ou à la maison tout en étant relativement fin et léger, se faisant oublier dans la poche. Sa lame étant tout de même assez petite, et n'ayant pas de scie ni de poiçon, il sera toutefois peu adapté à un usage "outdoor" et pour manger. 
Un excellent couteau à emporter partout avec soi, tout le temps !

This is the perfect EDC knife for me. it has everything I would actually need on an everyday basis without a lot of just in case tools, which combined with the extremely thin alox scales, it just disappears in my pocket until I need it

Hervorragendes Sackmesser

Nice, very slim yet functional knife. It has the tools I use most often and is slim enough for dress slacks. I suspend it on a small lanyard from my keyholder on my belt. It hangs vertically in my pocket with no bulge. The tools are large enough to handle tasks relegated to the larger knives. At the same time it doesnt attract unwanted attention from "sheeple", who seem to look for reasons to be frightened nowadays. Everything on this knife is useful, and practical. If I could change anything, I'd trade the can opener for a pair of those wonderful scissors. That would make it the ultimate urban survival tool.

I really like a nice slim medium size carry knife, and I don't have a need for more than one blade, but I do like screwdriver blades and a bottle opener. The fingernail file is a nice plus. I also really like the metal alox scales and this knife really fills the bill. Victorinox blades come razor sharp and are easy to maintain an edge.

Great carry knife

Ich habe mir seit Kurzem ein Cadet in der 2015 special-edition gegönnt und bin einfach nur begeistert! Das Messer ist kompakt und hat die nötigsten Werkzeuge auf ein Minimum reduziert.
Ist perfekt als EDC Taschenmesser. Die Farbe finde ich einfach nur klasse. Die verarbeitung ist Victorinox typisch 1A und man merkt schon beim ersten aufklappen das es mit liebe und leidenschaft gebaut wurde. Das Messer finde ich so schön das ich mir gleich zwei gekauft habe. Eins habe ich ausgestellt in meiner Victorinox Sammlung und das andere habe ich stets am Mann. Kann ich jedem nur weiter empfehlen! :)

Hammer Messer

An earlier Cadet model had a small pen blade instead of the current nail file. I liked that better, but alas, it's no longer made. I had an earlier model, and somehow managed to snap the tip off the small blade after over 20 years. I found a used one in red Alox, thankfully, but it's getting a bit tired and scarred. So I recently bought a new Cadet. I'll miss the second blade, but still think this is the finest quality, and most useful of any pocket knife made.

Great knife, but I liked earlier version a bit more

I was given my Cadet 23 years ago, and have carried it on my keychain every day since. The ring that holds the split ring finally wore through, so I can't carry it with me anymore, and I already miss it this old, trusted tool.

It's slim in the pocket, but very strong; the blade takes and holds an edge really well. Tool selection is ideally suited to my needs. Very sturdy. A perfect pocket-utility knife.

For sentimental reasons, I'd like to have it repaired; but I see that the Cadet is still made and sold by Victorinox, so, worst case, I'll get another one.

Have had mine for 23 years, used daily

I recently purchased this knife and have been carrying it everywhere I go. It has the obvious tools needed for daily tasks. The knife blade is extremely sharp right out of the package like all Victorinox knives. Alox handle is stylish and gives added grip. This knife is light weight and fits great in your pocket, ready to take care of business. 2 different screwdriver heads, bottle opener, file, and a can opener too. Awesome knife!

Great for everyday use!

The Cadet is probably one of the coolest models made from Victorinox. The alox handles give it more strength than the plastic ones, but it doesn't give that much grip. It also makes the Swiss Army Knife even slimmer (the alox handles are thinner than the plastic ones). It has a lot of the tools that you use most frequently, so that makes this tool a very good choice for EDC (everyday carry). The sad thing is that the blade doesn't retain it's edge for a long time like S30V steel would, but you can sharpen this knife up relatively quick. It also doesn't have a phillips head, but the nail cleaner/tip of the nail file works as a phillips head. I've handled about 3 different Swiss Army Knives, but I don't know what I consider myself, so I chose "First Time User".

Slim and Stylish

Das Cadetmesser gehört zu den beliebtesten Schweizer Messern in Fankreisen. Mit seinen 84mm längen, den nur 2 Lagen Werkzeug und nicht zuletzt mit seinen Aloxgriffschalen ist es sehr führig und leicht und kann bedenkenlos in der Hosentasche spazieren getragen werden.
Trotzdem besitzt es die bewährtesten Victorinoxtools, wie eine grosse Messerklinge, den robusten Flaschenöffner und den Dosenöffner. Dazu kommt ein Werkzeug, das selten bei grösseren Schweizer Messern zu finden ist. Die Nagelfeile. Diese darf man keineswegs an unnütz abtun. Neben den eigenen Nägeln kann man damit z.B auch kleinere Kunststoffteile abfeilen und entgraten. Daneben kann man mit der Spitze der Nagelfeile auch sehr gut kleinere Kreuzschlitzschrauben herausdrehen.
Überhaupt eignet sich das Messer sehr für Schrauben aller Art. Für grössere Schlitzschrauben taugt der Flaschenöffner. Für kleinere der Dosenöffner. Dieser kann auch grössere Kreuzschlitzschrauben drehen. Und die Nagelfeile erledigt die kleinen.
Das einzige was noch fehlt wäre eine Schere wie sie bei früheren 84mm zu finden war.

Das beliebte Alltagsmesser

I have owned a Cadet or variant since 1987 and find that it is an essential tool for almost everything I do that requires a knife or a can opener, or a screwdriver.. The lastest one was bought in 2008 when the one I owned was taken by the TSA because I forgot to pack it in my checked luggage. Now, when I travel, I forward it to myself at my final destination via UPS or FedEx. I never leave home without it.

Best pocket tool

The thing that sets the Cadet apart from the seemingly dozens of similar models is that it has the basic tool set of a 3-1/2", two-layer Swiss Army Knive (SAK) but it is extremely thin and only 3-1/4" long, closed. You see, it has Alox (aluminum) scales instead of Cellidor (plastic) and aluminum is stronger for its thickness than plastic. So we end up with a knife that is tougher than any other model this size, but still with a reasonable selection of screwdrivers. The only penalty for this is that we lose the toothpick and tweezers that are stored in the scales of the conventional plastic-handled models.

The 3-1/4" length is a bit more pocket-friendly than the 3-1/2" full size models. This knife doesn't make an unsightly or uncomfortable lump in the hip pocket of suit pants, for instance.

- Large blade: Large enough to be useful for some heavier cutting tasks than a Classic's would be, but yet not long enough to ever seem threatening to the non-knife carrying sheep of the world.

- Nail file: It is here instead of a small blade. The downside is that one does have to keep one's large blade sharp, as there is no back-up. The up side is that we have another too, which can be a multi-purpose tool. Not only is it good for filing nails, but also plastic. The tip can be used as a #1 Phillips driver. Since it is not as thin as a knife blade at the edge, it can also be used for a light duty prying tool.

- Bottle opener: This has the perfect size flat head screwdriver for most of the "regular" size screws out there, and is quite a bit stronger than the nail file, so some fairly heavy prying can be done with it. The bottle opener itself works on the first try, if you hook it in the kink of the bottle cap. The wire stripper, some folks will dismiss as useless. But one just needs the proper technique: Cut a ring around the circumference of the wire insulation first. THEN put the wire in the stripper notch, bend it over with your thumb on the cut piece of insulation, and pull. Voila!

- Can Opener: Try it some time, even if you have a dedicated tool in your kitchen. You will be amazed at how efficiently it works. Perhaps more useful in everyday life is the small screwdriver tip. Not only does it work in small flat head screws, but it also works reasonably well in a #2 Phillips head screw.

I consider this to be a perfect pocket knife for a handyman who has to wear nice pants to work for his day job. One can still look professional while packing a few useful tools in one's pocket.
